World Veterinary Day Celebrations
This year's WVD celebrations were organized by KVSSA at Nelliyampathy, Palakkad, Kerala. The celebration comprised of family get together and cultural night on 27.4.12 and seminar on Antibiotic resistance on 28.4.12. The cultural night was inaugurated by noted Malayalam poet and lyricist Sri. Murugan , Kaattakkada. He delivered a thought provoking message and recited his own poems Renuka and Kannada, thereby enthralling the audience. A Ganamela followed in which Vets and family members also participated.
The seminar was inaugurated by Sri. V. Chenthamarakshan, Hon: MLA, Nenmara. He also released the summer issue of JIVA by handing a copy to Prof.Dr. V. Purushothaman, TANUVAS, Chennai. The seminar through light on the grave danger of Antibiotic resistance.
The celebrations were organized at Green Land Farm House, Nelliampathy. More than 200 family members attended the function. The largest contingents were from Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Trivandrum and Malappuram. The cool weather, light drizzle and fog were enjoyed by one and all. The farm house had facilities for home stay, a recreation ground and a mixed husbandry farm. There were Ostriches, Emus , Turkeys, Muscovy ducks , various poultry breeds, Rabbits, pigeons, buffalo, goats, cows including indigenous varieties and lots more in the farm. The farm visit was an interesting one for all the family members. The leeches in the area added to the fun and fright for some. The open mess was also a new experience with danger lurking from above in the form of monkeys ready to snatch food items from plates.
The brain behind the organization of this year's WVD celebrations was Dr. Biju (Palakkad) and he was ably assisted by Dr. Shameem Aboobacker and Dr. Harinarayanan.
