Dr. A. Sethumadhavan (Retd. IAS), Former President, IVA Kerala (during 1981 & 1982), and former Directior, Animal Husbandry Department, Kerala expired on 25.09.2020. His funeral was conducted at Panjalam, Ernakulam. Dr. Sethumadhavan did his graduation from Madras Veterinary College and joined Animal Husbandry Department, Kerala during 1958. He served the department in many capacities until got conferred with IAS in 1990.

Dr. M.S. Jayasooryan, Former President, IVA Kerala and Retd. Additional Director, Animal Husbandry Department, Kerala passed away on 29.08.2020. He was residing at Madakkavil House, Ayyanthole Thrissur.
Dr. M.S. Jayasooryan was a very dynamic personality and the voice of Veterinarians of the state in yesteryears. He served as the president of IVA Kerala in two consecutive years, 1983 and 1984. Dr. Jayasooryan served as a member of the General Council of Kerala Agricultural University. He was a member of the registration tribunal appointed by Govt. of Kerala in 1988 for the preparation of primary Veterinary practitioners register of the state, along with Dr. G. Nirmalan and Dr. P. Balachandran. He was the founder secretary of Gurukulam Public School, Vengissery, Thrissur.
Dr. Sundaran Kunju (78years), belonging to 1962 batch, Rtd. A.P.O. Palakkad. passed away at 5.30 pm, today. Cremation at 9.30 pm today (21.08.2020) itself. His residence is at Athimani, Thathamangalam, Chittur, Palakkad. May his soul rest in peace..
Dr. Annamma Kurien, 4th batch, expired this morning at 6 am. She was under treatment at Parumala hospital for the last few weeks. She worked in VBI, Mannuthy, and in retired as professor from nutrition dept., CVAS Mannuthy. She is survived by her daughter Susan, and she was with Annamma. Her husband late Mr. Varghese retired as Professor, communication centre, KAU.

Dr. K.C. Vijayan (69 years old), Retd. Joint Director, Animal Husbandry Department, residing at Mulamthuruthy, Ernakulam passed away. He belonged to 1971 batch of Kerala Veterinary College, Mannuthy.
The cremation conducted on 12.06.2020, Friday, at 12 noon, at Perumpally, near Mulamthuruthy.
His physical remains shall be kept for obeisance, at his residence, on the day, morning.

Dr. Suman P. Issac, (50 years old), Assistant Project Officer, Regional Animal Husbandry Centre, Vaikom, Kottayam passed away on 17.04.2020. Her funeral was conducted on 19.04.2020 Sunday, 10 am at St. Mary's and St. John's Orthodox Church (Cheriya Palli), Kurichi, Kottayam.
She belonged to the family of Rose Villa, Puthuparambil, Perunthuruthy. Husband: Mr. Benny Alexander, Children: Anushka, Ashmit.
Dr. Suman Issac was a large contributor to the activities of IVA Kerala and she served as the Secretary of Ernakulam District Unit. Dr. K.N. Muraleedharan Nair, former Dean in-charge & HOD, Department of Veterinary Surgery, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Mannuthy expired on 3.12.2019, 6.30 am. Cremation was performed on 4.12.19, 3 pm at his residence at Chandramangalam, Amalagiri, (Ammanchery --Mannanam road, kuttypady junction), Kottayam.
Dr.K.N.Muraleedharan Nayar, retired Professor and Head of Surgery, is a native of Kottayam District of Kerala. He acquired BVSc from the University of Kerala (1963), MVSc in Veterinary Surgery from Madras University (1971) and Ph.D from Haryana Agricultural University (1983).
He started the career as Veterinary Surgeon in the Department of Animal Husbandry, Kerala in 1964 and posted as Lecturer in the Department of Surgery, CVAS, Mannuthy in 1965. He was promoted as Associate Professor in Surgery and Radiology (1978) and Professor in 1986, and elevated as Head of the Department in 1994. He was acting as the Dean, CVAS, Mannuthy from 2000 till retirement from service on superannuation on 15.01.2001.
There are more than 75 published scientific articles to his credit and a considerable number of papers in International and National Seminars and Symposia. He guided Ph.D and MVSc students as Major and Minor Advisor.
He was examiner for postgraduate courses of Tamil Nadu University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Chennai, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore and Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University and also the selection committee member in Tamil Nadu University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Chennai and Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences & Technology, Thiruvanathapuram, Kerala.
He is life member of Indian Society for Veterinary Surgery and Indian Veterinary Association, Kerala and Governing Body Member of Veterinarians Welfare Society, Kerala. He is the recipient of several honours for his contributions in the field of Elephant Surgery and Medicine.
Death can never take a good man away, for, in the hearts of the people he inspired, the legacy remains and continuous throughout generations. He was a great teacher and mentor to many and may his soul find eternal rest. Deepest condolences.

Born in 1936, Dr K George Joseph belonged to the first batch of Veterinary College, Mannuthy. He retired as Senior Veterinary Surgeon, Eloor, Ernakulam District. He passed away on 7 January 2019 leaving behind wife Smt. Rosamma, son Jos George Joseph, an Agricultural Officer and daughter Susan Jacob.
Dr. M C George of Manayath House, Ayavana, Muvattupuzha was born on 17 January 1941. He belonged to the 1961 Batch of Veterinary College, Mannuthy. He is mostly known for his extra-professional, social and public activities. Besides being a veterinarian, he earned a University degree in law and practiced as an Advocate. He was an A Class PWD Contractor, served as a National Trustee of Indian Farmers’ Movement or better known as INFAM. He may be the first and the last one, among the veterinarians of Kerala, to have been selected as a member of Kerala Public Service Commission. He left this earthly world on 17 January 2019. He is survived by wife Smt. Marys.
Dr Mary John had the unique distinction of being one of the very few women students of the first batch of Veterinary College, Mannuthy. She spent her life mostly in Chennai, Bangalore and later returned to Kerala to settle at Aluva. Her husband John was with MRF. She had two daughters: Sujais running the famous Saukhia Holistic Hospital, Bangalore, & Sobha is settled in Singapore.
Dr Muraleedharan was born in 1950. He belonged to the 1967 batch of Veterinary College, Mannuthy. He joined Mehsana Dairy, Gujarat in 1972 after his graduation as a Veterinary Officer where he became an instant hit among the dairy farmers. He continued at Mehsana till he got appointed in KLD Board as Assistant Manager in 1983. He retired as the Deputy General Manager of KLD Board and continued as a Faculty member. He also worked with Sathya Sai Mission for technology transfer programmes in Dairy Sector in Thrissur, Palakkad and Alappuzha districts. He lost his wife in 1991 in an accident. He is survived by son Arun, an Engineer. He was one of the most sought-after veterinarians for training programmes for farmers by the Department of Animal Husbandry. He left this earthly world on 29th June 2019.
Dr Pradeep Kumar belonged to the 1978 Batch of Veterinary College, Thrissur. Upon graduation, he joined the Department of Animal Husbandry and retired on 31 May 2014 as a Deputy Director. He passed away in January 2019 following a sudden illness and hospitalization. He is survived by wife Smt. Jayanthi, Chief Manager, Syndicate Bank. His son Dr. Jayadeep. MS is working as Assistant Professor at Gokulam Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram. Daughter-in-law Dr Lakkshmi is a PG student in ENT at the same college. Daughter Preethu Pradeep LLM is practicing at High Court, Ernakulam and son-in-law is an IT Analyst with Infosys, USA
Dr. V Ramakrishna Pillai was born on 13th September 1931. He secured his degree in veterinary science from Assam Veterinary College. He retired as Senior Veterinary Surgeon, Veterinary Hospital, Malayinkil, Thiruvananthapuram. He expired on 6th January 2019 at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram. He is survived by his son Dr. R Venugopal, Assistant Director at the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and two daughters Vijayalekshmi and Saraswathi, both retired High School teachers. Dr Bindu Gopalakrishnan, Veterinary Surgeon, SLBP Nemom is his daughter in law.
Dr. Ismail was born and brought up in Pattambi. He belonged to the 1961 Batch of Veterinary College, Mannuthy. He played and loved football. He quit his very busy veterinary practice and found happiness in agricultural farming. He left this earthly world on 12th June 2019 silently and peacefully, a kind of departure which every human being would silently pray for. The people in Pattambi mourned the death of this great philanthropist. He left behind wife Smt. Suhara, two sons and one daughter. Elder son Mr. Babu is working with Glaxo Smith Kline in Coimbatore and younger son Jamal is running a successful Super Market at Perinthalmanna. His daughter Noorjahan is a teacher, married and settled in Tirur.
Born on 18 October 1956, he belonged to the 1974 Batch of Veterinary College, Mannuthy. He graduated in 1978 and joined the Department of Animal Husbandry. After a long innings, Dr Sukumaran retired from service as Joint Director, Ernakulam on 31st March 2012. He was closely associated with the service and professional organizations of the veterinarians of Kerala. He served a term with PDDP after his retirement. He also served as the President of Association of Holistic Veterinary Medicine. He succumbed to an unexpected illness on 20th July 2019. He left behind his wife Smt. Geetha, son Dr.Swaroop a Ph D in Bio Technology and daughter Shruthy S Kumar.
Dr. Ibinu Sabeer , VS, VD, Veliyam, passed away on 23/5/ 2009 at Kannur. He is a veterinarian of the 1988 Batch and the son of Dr. Habeeb Mohammed, Retd. Deputy Director of the Animal Husbandry Department. Dr. Ibinu is survived by wife, Jabina and daughter, Roshini.The burial was on 24/5/2009.

Born on 30th March 1946, Dr Lilly Job Chungath joined Veterinary College, Mannuthy in 1963. She started her career as Honorary Veterinary Surgeon at Veterinary Dispensary, Pariyaram. On selection by the Kerala Public Service Commission, she joined at Veterinary Dispensary, Chemmencherry, Kozhikkod. She retired as District Animal Husbandry Officer, Thrissur on 31st March 2001. She left for heavenly abode on 29th July 2019. Her husband, a retired Assistant Educational Officer expired a few years back. Her daughter, a practicing lawyer is married to Dr. Pradeep, a veterinarian. Her son is a successful entrepreneur, currently running a Pharma House.
Born on 20th June 1960, Dr T A Ali started his career as a Livestock Inspector and joined as Veterinary Surgeon at Veterinary Polyclinic, Anthikkad in 2008. He retired from Veterinary Dispensary SN Puram on 30th June 2016. Dr T A Ali passed away on 4th June 2019 and is survived by wife Smt. Jasmi, daughters Swaliha, Rameesa, Sameeha and son Anees Ali.
Fondly called as Santo Oommen, Dr C J Oommen belonged to the 1958 batch of Veterinary College, Mannuthy and took his degree in 1962. He hailed from Niranam, Thiruvalla and of late he was living in Pappanamcod, Thiruvananthapuram. Dr C J Oommen worked with the Department of Animal Husbandry and practiced mostly in Thiruvananthapuram District. He was a renowned clinician and his expertise in large animal surgery was widely acknowledged. He retired from Government Service as a Joint Director. He breathed his last on 2nd April 2019 while he was in USA. His wife worked as a Principal of a Higher Secondary School in Kerala. His son, who was a state player in hockey is working in US. His daughter too is living in US. As of now, his entire family is settled in the United States of America.
Dr. Sainalabdeen of Rehman Manzil, Pandakassala, Chirayinkil belonged to the 1958 Batch of Veterinary College, Mannuthy. He joined the Department of Animal Husbandry and retired as Deputy Director. His demise on 6th June 2019 left behind wife Smt. Razia Abdeen, a daughter and two sons. Daughter Nisha Nameer, a high school teacher is married to Dr. P O Nameer, Professor of Forestry, Kerala Agricultural University and son of Dr P A Ommer, His elder son Dr. S Anoop M V Sc, Ph D is currently doing his post-doctoral fellowship in UK and is a faculty member of Department of Surgery, Veterinary College, Mannuthy. Another son S. Salil is a Computer Engineer and Communication Specialist, currently working in Riyadh.
Dr Abraham Oommen was born on 15th July 1952 at Puramattom. He joined Veterinary College, Mannuthy in 1971 and joined the erstwhile KLD & MM Board after graduation. He entered the Department of Animal Husbandry in December 1978 as Veterinary Officer SFDA, Thiruvananthapuram. He worked in Kollam, Kannur and Pathanamthitta districts. He retired as Assistant Project Officer, Regional AI Centre, Pathanamthitta on 31 July 2007. Dr Abraham Oommen was 67 when he expired on 11th September 2019 after a brief illness. He is survived by wife Smt. Sudha K Cherian, retired Junior Superintendent of Department of Animal Husbandry and two sons- the elder son Rev. Abraham Sudeep Oommen is a priest with Marthoma Church and the younger one Cherian Subin Oommen is a graphic Designer at Puramattom
Dr. Alex M Chacko was born on 19th April 1944 at Kumbanad. He joined the Veterinary College, Mannuthy in 1964. Dr Alex M Chacko joined the Department of Animal Husbandry in 1973 after a few years of practice as Honorary Veterinary Consultant. He worked in various capacities in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Ernakulam districts. He retired from the Department of Animal Husbandry as Deputy Director AH, Ernakulam in April 1999. He breathed his last on 25th August 2019 leaving behind wife Smt. Aleyamma Chacko, and two daughters Rini and Rishi, both married and well settled.
Dr Sabareenathan Nair belonged to the 1958 batch of Veterinary College, Mannuthy. He started his career as a Veterinary Surgeon in the Department of Animal Husbandry. During this period, he was selected to the Short Service Commission with Remount and Veterinary Corps of Indian Army. He came back on completion of the tenure and re-joined the Department. He was transferred to Veterinary College & Research Institute, Mannuthy as instructor in Equine section. Subsequently, he joined for his post-graduation in Veterinary College, Thrissur. Later he became Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor in the Department of Poultry Science. In between, he acquired his Ph. D from Madras Veterinary College. He remained Professor of the Department of Poultry Science of Veterinary College Thrissur till he opted for a voluntary retirement. After his voluntary retirement in 1994 he joined Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Veterinary Education and Research Pondicherry as its Founder Dean and remained so till 1999 and came back to Kerala and settled in Kuriachira, Thrissur. He succumbed to a brief illness on 3rd April 2019. He is survived by wife Dr. Lalithambika, a doctor with the Department of Health Services. He had two daughters: Poornima Satheeshan MSc, B Ed presently settled in Bangalore and Dr. Seema Anil Kumar MBBS in United Arab Emirates. His son Er. Vivek Sabarinath is a specialist in Computer Hardware.
Dr Rajendran Nair is a native of Chavara. He graduated from Assam Veterinary College and joined the Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry, Rajasthan. He retired as Deputy Director. He breathed his last on 1st March 2019. He is survived by wife Rajalekshmi, a son and a daughter. His Family is settled in Changanassery.
